Health Nurse Jobs
As a home health nurse, you have the opportunity
to care for a variety of patients, including
those suffering from acute or chronic
illness. Many home health nurses are
on hand to help patients recover from
surgery in their own homes rather than
in hospital beds. The majority of your
skills will concentrate on the patient,
but it is not unheard of for a home health
nurse to provide support and counseling
to the families as well.
Another role a home health nurse often
plays is that of facilitator between
patients and the health agencies providing
the support. A home health nurse often
acts as the liaison between the patient
and the attending physician, or the spokesperson
for the families in terms of communicating
their wishes for the patient during times
of health crises.
Due to the private setting of your work
as a home health nurse, your duties may
include taking personal care of the patient's
non-medical needs. This may include feeding,
bathing and dressing the patient, and
other domestic chores. You will be a
central figure on a team of healthcare
practitioners, all working around the
clock to provide care for the patient
in their home.
